Written by Captain Chris Hardie…

The Trophy was presented by Harry G Lindley in 1993, the year that he became our Captain. (the same Harry Lindley who is mentioned on the Lindley Mitchell Bowl which is played for by Blackford in the match against Bruntsfield Allied).
He was a great stalwart of our inter club matches hence the trophies.

Caermount won the first match in 1990 and the next match in 1991 was halved. Then Blackford had a purple patch and won the next 11 matches from 1992 to 2002 inclusive.
Then it appears that Caermount got its act together and won in 2003 and from then onwards until 2017 Caermount either won or halved their matches to retain the trophy during the whole of this period.
Blackford stopped the rot and won in 2017. But Caermount regained the trophy with a win in 2018 and retained it with a further win and two halved matches until Blackford won this year (2022) and the trophy is now back with us.
This match survived the Pandemic. The trophy was played for unlike other matches which were cancelled . However in 2008 the entry on the Trophy is “Not Played“. Perhaps no date could be found.   Or cancellation due to bad weather? This is not known.
In summary there are 33 Match results recorded on the Trophy. Blackford have won 14 Matches, Caermount have won 12 Matches, 6 Matches were halved and one Match was Not Played.
However Caermount have had the lion’s share of possession of this trophy since in all six halved matches, Caermount retained the trophy having won in the previous year. So in 18 of the matches played Caermount either won or retained the Trophy – as compared to Blackford with 14 wins.
With Caermount currently on very good form I am sure you agree that this makes this year’s win by the Blackford team all the more impressive !
