The Consolation Cup

In 1951, The Captain, WS McIntosh Reid, expressed his concern about the increasingly large number of no-returns at the outings. His solution was to present a small silver cup to be presented to the member returning the single highest (worst) net score at any outing, so giving all members a reason to submit their scores.

In 1952, the inaugural season for our new Consolation Cup was awarded to Peter MacDonald. It was his first silverware in twenty years of membership and was to prove to be his only trophy. He did  however gain further consolation when  awarded Honorary Membership of the club in 1963, the year that he was knighted.

Recently, the criteria for awarding this cup has changed. The recipient is now the member recording the lowest stableford score of the year, at an outing.
