Our 2022 match against Caermount was played on 18th August in glorious sunshine and a blustery wind on Gullane No3.
Match 1 – Roger Mew and John Matheson
A slow start by Blackford saw them 3 down after 10th. Form improved over next few holes with both players birdieing 14th resulting in 1 up after 15th. Caermount upped their game from then on and finished victors 1 up.
Match 2 – David Nicholson and Colin Glynne-Percy
A flying start saw Blackford 5 up after 5 against 2 quality opponents. This advantage was never lost and match finished on 15th with a 5 and 3 victory.
Match 3 – Malcolm Davidson and Iain McLaren
A slow start by Blackford so them down early on and by 10th they were still 5 down.
A comeback of Lazarus proportions then ensued with them winning the next 7 holes to win match 2 and 1!!!
Highlights were Iain’s 2 on 11th and Malcolm chipping in for a gutsy par on 14th.
Was this the greatest ever number of consecutive holes ever won by a Blackford four ball?
Match 4 – Pat Lawrence and Derek MacGillvary
Nip and tuck all the way round in this key match. Blackford displayed the tenacity and guts that you would expect from these 2 fine players playing against 2 low handicappers. The match went all the way to the 18th and finished all square.
Match result: Blackford 2.5 Caermount 1.5
