We were scheduled to have 26 players with 3 not staying for supper . But after 5 call offs we ended up with 21 players with 19 players plus one non playing member Tim Straton having a meal afterwards .
The day was overcast ,but with no wind and slightly warmer than recently , it turned out to be a perfect day for golf . Gullane number 3 was in great order and the greens were fast and true .
The Outing was quickly reorganised into seven 3 ball games . The Captain led the way with Dylan Egelstaff and Colin Clark in his group .As expected most players scored relatively well from high twenties to mid thirties in terms of Stableford points . But all expected that the winning score would have to be forty points or more . So it proved to be .
Since the tenure of John Williams as our hard working secretary and treasurer we have introduced a prize of one Blackford golf ball for anyone who gets a gross two at any hole . ( there were no twos scored in the St Andrews Outing ) However this was a popular prize at this Outing ! Dylan , Captain Chris and Jeff Preston each got a two . But most remarkably Neil Straton got THREE twos on his card !! It may a long time before this feat is beaten .
At the Prize Giving the Captain thanked Gullane member Allan Weir for hosting the event , the staff at Gullane for a delicious meal and John Williams for his invaluable preparation work to make the Captain’s job easier , albeit that John was away on holiday . Prizes were then presented to the players who had got twos . At this point Captain Chris reminded everyone that whilst the Majority Cup was now front and centre as regards the trophy everyone would now wish to win by getting the best cumulative number of points to be the best Stableford player of the year , the Calder Cup was still the senior trophy for the best Scratch player of the year . David Macaulay had won it last season but was absent from the Annual Dinner ; the Captain was pleased to present this trophy to David at this Outing to rapturous applause from those attending .
The other prizes were presented as follows : –
