On Tuesday 11 April 2023, the Blackford season opened with an inaugural Outing to the Jubilee Course at St Andrews .
It posed a real challenge as the course is regarded as one of the most difficult in the St Andrews portfolio.
Lunch was arranged in the Links Clubhouse before tee off. All players came readily equipped with wet weather gear and windproof clothing just in case. As it happens the weather was fine at the start but the wet weather which was forecast arrived during the second nine affecting the tail enders in particular.
Captain Chris Hardie got the Outing under way in a four ball including past captain Colin Stevenson and new members Geoff Stevenson and Colin Macpherson.
A winning score of 36 stableford points by Roger Mew was very impressive indeed in these conditions, closely followed by Miles Morrison with 35 points and Colin Glynne-Percy also with 35 points but with a poorer inward half. Colin Macpherson came 4th with 34 points and Eric Turnbull in 5th place with the best inward half of the several players who scored 32 points.
This Outing would not have been possible without the valued assistance of all six Blackford members who are also members of the R&A,, kindly agreeing to come along and take 3 guests each thereby reducing the green fees substantially for everyone (and also allowing the club to afford an additional tee time to accommodate all 28 members who had applied to play in this Outing)
Grateful thanks are given to the six R&A members who are:
Captain Chris Hardie; Ian Ballantine; Neil Blake; Alf Cattanach; Michael Clarke; and Mark Forrester.
