Gullane No 3 11 th May 2017
The first outing of the season certainly started off with a bang – at least for the secretary. Whilst rushing around doing secretarial stuff before people arrived, he exited the Clubhouse through what he thought to be an open door. It proved to be a plate glass wall which momentarily knocked him out and removed a tooth (surprisingly to him no handicap adjustment was forthcoming!).
The weather was variable with early starters facing cold windy conditions and while the wind remained the sun came out in the late afternoon. The course was extremely dry so with a following wind drives went a long, long way but stopping the ball on the green was difficult.
27 members attended including four newcomers and Tom Bell won the stableford with an excellent 42 points. Second was David Armitage and third was David Macaulay both having 40 points – a score also shared with Dougie Auld. David Macaulay went round in an impressive gross 73 and won the longest drive. The ball of Bill Brodie won him the nearest the pin award.
A very good buffet meal was enjoyed in the Gullane Clubhouse. The Captain thanked Gullane member and Past Captain, Ian McLeish, who had smoothed the path for the Blackford outing.
