Our final outing of the 2019 season took part at Aberdour on a day when heavy rain in the morning gave way to a sunny afternoon which lasted just long enough for our matches to be completed before drizzle arrived.

Twenty eight members attended and enjoyed both the competition and the two course meal served afterwards.

In his closing remarks, Captain Matheson cruelly sucked Allan Weir into believing that his second shot at the par-4 17th had won our prize for “Nearest The Pin In 2”  before crashing his hopes with news that Derek McGillivray had beaten him. Allan’s disappointment lasted only a few minutes until the announcement of the best scores.

Nearest the pin (and it was remarkably near), at the second hole went to Michael Clarke.

Four members had scored 35 points and they could not be separated by the traditional “back-nine” count. Two could not even be separated by the “back-six” and it was only when the “back-four” were counted that Miles Morrison came through to take 3rd place. Miles’ round was all the more remarkable for the fact that he failed to score at four holes and he had been sorely tempted to snap his club having knocked his tee shot a few yards into the ditch at the par-3 12th.

Second place went to Colin Clark who scored 36 points and the winner was the aforementioned Mr Weir, on 38 points.

Captain Matheson thanked the staff at Aberdour Golf Club for their hospitality and particularly highlighted to excellent work done by our Secretary, Chris Hardie. Members applauded in support.

The Captain also  reminded Blackford members that the date for our annual dinner, October 18, is fast approaching. We hope to see a large number of members at Bruntsfield for the dinner and members should communicate with the secretary to reserve their place. As always, guests will be welcome.
