Blackford Golf Club made it’s first visit to the newly reconstructed course at Bruntsfield Links Golfing Society on Wednesday 14th August.

Edinburgh, in common with most of the UK had been lashed with heavy rain in the preceding week, causing many many golf courses to be closed for periods of time. Bruntsfield however, with it’s upgraded drainage system and new USGA standard greens had withstood the weather remarkably well, remained open throughout the storms and was in great condition.

During the event, we were lucky to have nothing worse than a five-minute shower during an almost windless day – perfect conditions for our golf.

Thirty One Blackford members attended and most stayed afterwards to enjoy a two-course meal in the lovely Bruntsfield Dining Room. In his closing remarks, Captain John Matheson thanked Rachel and her team for looking after us so well both before and after the golf.

Captain John was also involved in the other item of excitement / consternation. While changing for golf, after the Captain had led the first group off, Vice Captain Stevenson was surprised to find a car-key in his bag. None of those around could identify it but after a quick wander round the car park, pointing and clicking the key, it was clear that it controlled the Captain’s car. Trying to be helpful, JS popped the key into JM’s jacket pocket..or thought he did. In the event it was the wrong jacket and by the time JS returned to the clubhouse after golf. JM had already called his wife who kindly drove to Bruntsfield with the spare key (which didn’t work). All was well in the end. Luckily the “wrong jacket” was still there when JS went looking.
